The Portugal Masters is a European Tour men’s professional golf tournament that was played for the first time in October 2007.
At the time of creation, the Victoria Golf Course was hailed as the most ambitious golf project Portugal had ever witnessed. Designed by true golfing legend, Arnold Palmer, there is absolutely no doubt that it has lived up to that lofty billing. Covering some 90 hectares, the venue encompasses one of the most complete golf complexes in Europe and features an exceptional driving range and a putting green of some 2,500 m2. All of this has made it the obvious venue of choice for many of the top international tournaments to visit Portugal in recent times. Indeed, it has served as the host venue to the Portugal Masters on every occasion since 2007, while the World Cup Championship was staged there in 2005.
The Masters has been staged 15 times at the Victoria Golf Club and no less than 7 times the tournament has been won by an English player. Sadly, we are yet to see a Portuguese golfer win the Masters; could it be this year?

So back in 2007 Susana Martins decided to enter a competition organised by Turismo de Portugal to design the Portugal Masters trophy. She was the only independent designer to do so. Her stunning design won the prestigious competition and the trophy was duly designed and produced by her. The Masters is now utterly key to the European golfing calendar and is the pre-cursor to “The Race to Dubai!” Ten years ago that’s exactly what Susana did and emigrated to Dubai and her life and company have exponentially changed. Regularly her designs feature in the worlds best fashion and lifestyle publications.
A new Sotheby’s exhibition underscores the UAE as a destination for exceptional jewellery making and features Susana.
Susana was also made a Member of the jury panel of the 1st edition of “The Gulf 3D Printing Olympiad” held in Dubai, an event part of “UAE Innovation Week” powered by ATLAB
About This Project
Designed in 2007, commissioned by Turismo de Portugal, The Portugal Masters Trophy became the symbol of the golf tournament held every year in Algarve, organised by PGA – Professional Golf Association and The European Tour.
Concept
A dialogue of symbols between Portuguese culture and golf. Inspired by the armillary sphere – deliberately presented in an incomplete manner in order to give protagonism to the golf ball, even when surrounded by Portuguese symbology and tradition. The annulets rest upon the tee and are executed in filigree – thus highlighting the most traditional form of gold and silver work in Portugal.
Description
Entirely made of silver. The golf ball is polished, with a partial satin finish, in order to emphasise the relief. The annulets are made of darker filigree, making use of a time-honoured and traditional technique. The contrasting tones, between the annulets and the golf ball, clearly differentiate the two symbols. The silver tee, with a satin finish, supports the whole and rests on a polished silver base that will subsequently bear the names of the winners.
