One of the truly spectacular qualities about the Algarve, apart of course, from the breathtaking scenery, are the amazing talents that call this part of the world, home.
On Saturday 20 November 2021, Algarve Lifestyle Magazine has the great pleasure of co-sponsoring a local fashion collection launch of an up-and-coming young designer Sarah Louise of SLK designs. This collection was sponsored by Swarovski, who purchased one of Sarah’s dresses for their latest advertising campaign. Mar d’ Estorias, who specialize in Portuguese craftsmanship and artisan products, was one of the biggest sponsors of the Wonderland Collection
In true Swarovski style, there was plenty of crystals, sparkles and bling in the Wonderland collection from SLK designs, inspired by Sarah’s love of the fantasy genre. One of Sarah’s trademarks is metallic fabrics, which were artfully rendered into ensembles of corsets, two-piece suits, and several dresses, one of which had a hand-painted rendering of a carousel horse, by Daria Souzdalev, a graduate of the Ecole Superieur d’ Art Mural Et Decoratif de Versailles.
The styling and make-up for the Wonderland Collection event was an epic collaboration with the Ava Make-up School, who did a great job in glamming up the models to coordinate with Sarah’s fantasy-themed designs.
Sarah’s fashion line is made to order, and she plans to only do one couture collection a year, so that she can put maximum creativity into her annual collection, rather than diluting her creative renderings with mass production. Sarah’s ready-to-wear apparel will be produced on a regular basis and is available from her webshop.
Sarah says that she draws inspiration from the beauty of the Algarve, which she finds inspires her creativity immensely. When asked about her views on making fashion more sustainable, Sarah is very keen to see her future creations using sustainable materials, as she feels that this is an issue that needs to be addressed by trendsetting young designers such as herself.
