This golfing oasis in the “other Algarve” offers a unique blend of natural beauty, tranquillity, and world-class golfing experiences.

Challenging and Scenic Design:

Designed by renowned golf architect Jorge Santana da Silva, an architect known for his exceptional golf course designs worldwide. His innovative approach to blending natural landscapes with challenging and enjoyable golf experiences has earned him acclaim in the golfing community. His courses often reflect a deep understanding of the environment and a commitment to sustainability. Santana da Silva’s work showcases a harmonious integration of golf and nature, providing golfers with memorable rounds while preserving the beauty of the surroundings. His contributions have left a lasting impact on the world of golf course architecture.

Ombria Golf Course is an 18-hole, par-71 course that expertly integrates the natural landscape into the layout. The course design seamlessly incorporates the indigenous flora and fauna, ensuring that each hole is not only a golfing challenge but also an opportunity to connect with nature.

Signature Holes:

While Ombria Golf Course is relatively new, it already boasts a few standout “signature” holes. These holes are strategically designed to provide both challenging gameplay and breathtaking views. Golfers can expect undulating fairways, well-placed bunkers, and greens that test their precision and strategy. These signature holes are sure to leave a lasting impression and a sense of accomplishment.

My favourite: The 9th

The 9th hole at Ombria Golf is a true test of a golfer’s skill and nerve. It’s a challenging hole that could easily be mistaken for the 18th on any championship course. As you step onto the tee box, you can’t help but feel a sense of excitement mixed with a touch of apprehension. This long par 4 demands precision and strategy right from the very first shot.

Standing on the tee, your gaze is immediately drawn to the water hazard that runs ominously along the entire left side of the fairway. It’s a daunting sight, and the mere presence of that shimmering expanse of water can make even the most seasoned golfers feel a twinge of anxiety.  The fairway is flanked by O.B. on the right, leaving little room for error. The approach shot is often long and with well-protected green,

The wind’s direction and intensity make club selection and shot planning even more critical. It adds an element of unpredictability that keeps golfers on their toes and adds to the drama of the hole.

Sustainability and Eco-consciousness:

One of the defining features of Ombria Golf Course is its commitment to sustainability and environmental responsibility. The course has earned certification from the Golf Environment Organization (GEO) for its dedication to minimising its impact on the local ecosystem. This commitment enhances the golfing experience while preserving the natural beauty of the “other Algarve.”

Luxurious Amenities:

Beyond the golf course itself, Ombria Golf Course is part of the larger Ombria Resort, offering a range of luxurious amenities. The resort features a five-star Viceroy hotel and spa combined with a top-notch luxury real estate development, making it an ideal destination for golfers seeking relaxation and pampering after a round. The clubhouse, too, is a testament to the resort’s commitment to luxury, providing golfers with a stylish space to unwind and enjoy the breathtaking views.

Conclusion:

Ombria Golf Course in Querença, the “other Algarve,” offers a golfing experience that stands apart from the region’s more well-known coastal courses. Its serene location, challenging design, commitment to sustainability, and luxurious amenities make it a destination that deserves recognition among golf enthusiasts.
